Fire Relief – $150,000 Raised

For the June 11, 2018 Mountain Village Garden Apartments Fire

We were all saddened by the fire on June 11 in Lynn Valley.

Our thoughts go out to all the families of the complex. The community is coming together quickly with support; school groups, business groups, local industry, and individuals have reached out this week searching for a way to help these families. We are working with our community and our local businesses and community partners.

North Shore Emergency Management (NSEM) confirmed that 14 families were displaced

NSEM worked with residents to ensure their immediate needs were met

We are coordinating community efforts to ensure aid is delivered efficiently and at the right time.

MOUNTAIN VILLAGE FIRE RELIEF UPDATE:

What an amazing community! Approximately $150,000 was raised and disbursed to those affected the the fire (as designated by NSEM).  Funds have been disbursed and the account is now closed.

Thank you to this community for all your donations to the Fire Relief Fund that has now all been disbursed to the families affected by the Mountain Village fire in June (families as designated by NSEM).

The finances were disbursed in three cheques as well as furniture donations. The furniture was purchased, delivered and built in-home as needed in late June to those families that we had been put in contact with by NSEM.

Three families were not forwarded to us until July, those families received the same financial disbursements and the furniture $ amount was based on the exact items originally purchased and delivered to the other families. This money has been given in IKEA gift cards to ensure fairness as the other furniture was purchased at IKEA.

It was brought to our attention in late June that two families were quite physically affected by the fire; the Lynn Valley Lions Club Society decided to make additional resources available to them. This included the family of the deceased.

Thank you again for all your support and donations! We were successful because of the support of our community, sponsors and partners.
