Bremerton Central Lions Club (MD19-C Bremerton WA)
The Bremerton Central Lions Club held a unique fundraising event that worked well during Covid. The Bremerton Club has shared this information with other Lions Clubs who are considering doing a shredding event in their communities.
Our Shredding Company is operated by our 1st VP, but won’t go out of Kitsap County.
Details of Fundraiser:

- The shredding company charged $ .50 per pound and provided the truck, scales, waste bins and two employees.
- We ran the event from 10am until 2pm.
- Cars were lined up by 9:30 waiting for us and we stayed busy right up to the end.
- It took about 7 Lions to work the event.
- We had two lines going and the Lions helped move the materials from the cars (as did the shredder employees), weigh the amount, inform the customer of the number of pounds, collect the funds ($1.00 per pound) and provide the weight and funds to a “score keeper/money sorter) seated at a table between the two rows of cars.
- The club provided one check to the shredding company and we were responsible for banking cash, checks or acceptance of credit cards.
- We billed it as “no touch”, everyone wearing masks and the customer could watch his materials go into the shredding truck from their car.
- We found several business marquees that advertised the event and some organizations who published it to their emailing lists.
- We also used District C’s facebook page to promote the event.
- Club members were urged to send copies of the flyer to all of their email contacts.
Because of the Covid Crisis, we missed a couple of major fundraisers and selected this one to replace some of the income. We’re going to do it again on April 10th, right around tax time.
In addition to nearly filling the truck’s 6000# capacity and raising $3,000, we also had donations nearing $350. We had fun, too, being together and doing something constructive.
